Dana Thornton was accused of “impersonating her ex-boyfriend” on Facebook. She created a fake Facebook page and posted false abuse about him. This type of crime is classified as fourth-degree identity theft and can be punishable for a maximum of 18 months in prison. Assistant Prosecutor Robert Schwartz said she created the page “using photos and personal information” about her ex-lover. She also alleged posted comments that were meant to look like they were from him.
“Among the comments posted on the page were that the ex-boyfriend, a narcotics detective, was "high all the time", had herpes and frequented prostitutes and escort services” was one such comment made on the page that Thornton had made. How Lori Drew became America's most reviled [hated] mother
Lori Drew was another person accused of cyber impersonation and was the reason for cyber impersonation becoming a main issue in the American government. 13-year-old Megan Meier committed suicide in a St Louis suburb in New Jersey in 2006. This was because Lori Drew had created a fake 16-year-old boy on MySpace, but the really surprising thing is that Drew is actually the mother of a teenage daughter who was friends with Megan. She contended that she thought that the victim had spread rumors about her daughter and did this to find out what Megan was saying. Drew was eventually condemned of “three misdemeanor (cases against the law) counts”. This occurred in 2006. The picture is of Megan's parents after her death.

A 16 year old teenager from Toronto High School was accused for having created a false Facebook account using the name and pictures of a teenage male victim. The suspect allegedly used the fake account to send horrible remarks to the victim’s friends and others. A police officer says that this case has an element of cyber bullying and ‘kids have to be empowered to take care of their own safety and learn how to protect themselves.’ The teenager appeared on Newmarket court with two charges of impersonation with intent.
